Fortunately, times have changed, but one inventory manager remembers those old days; David McIntyre, an inventory manager at Bull Valley Ford in Woodstock, Illinois, has witnessed the automotive industry’s evolution first-hand.
“In the last two years, the business is changing. We no longer have the amount of inventory we used to have. It’s not going to be where you walk on a lot, and there are 50 of one truck to choose from. That’s not going to happen anymore.”
Making Inventory Management a Breeze with VINView
Dave sold his first car in 1978 and was a sales manager by1 980. After twelve years in the industry, he started working with Ford in 1990, and has been there ever since—first in Glenview, and now in Woodstock at Bull Valley Ford.
So, this veteran of the industry has seen just about everything. Today, in the heartland of America, he’s been assisting customers with the help of VINView. But Dave keenly remembers the early days, back before you could pull up an interactive map and see exactly where a vehicle is: “It wasn’t a problem because you could tell buyers it was going to take six weeks to eight weeks to receive their vehicle, and it took six to eight weeks. So, it really wasn’t an issue because the industry was able to produce and ship on a regular basis, unlike today where it’s helter-skelter as a result of parts issues and supplier issues, more than it is anything else.”
The bigger the industry, the bigger the growing pains. The automotive industry has so many moving parts today that keeping track of what vehicles are where would be infinitely more difficult without powerful solutions like VINView.
